- 3. This is a reference to what may be the longest running joke in video game journalism. Back in the day, GamePro magazine was sold in bookstores or mailed to subscribers. It provided screenshots, walkthroughs, and tips for all the hot new games of the day.
However, its coverage of Doom was unusally unhelpful, with the above "shoot the Cyberdemon" quote being the advice it gave for dealing with the boss.
Normally, GamePro's tips would be much more useful - for example, it could have mentioned that the Cyberdemon doesn't take damage from the rocket's explosion - just the rocket's direct impact.
